San Francisco Foodie

I have spent the past year back and forth from San Francisco. My favorite city for pilates and food. I am currently here for a pilates workshop. To balance my workouts I am doing lots of eating! My mission here is to try as many dishes possible on The 2010 Big Eat SF: 100 Things to Try Before You Die | 7x7 as well as a few other recommendations from fellow foodie friends. So here are a few highlights from my various trips…

1. Zuni roast chicken-
Totally worth all the hype, and the hour long wait once the bird is ordered! I am a true chicken lover so I am not easily impressed. To tell you the truth though I am not sure if it is the perfectly crispy moist chicken or the vinegary bread salad but regardless this is one the best things I have ever eaten!

3. Carnitas tacos at La Taqueria-

The combination of different textures and flavors is out of this world. I have yet to find Mexican food like this in NYC.

7.Shaking beef at the Slanted Door (2009 Big Eat)

10. Nick’s Baja-style fish tacos at Nick’s Crispy Taco

17. Samusa soup at Burma Superstar

21. Pizza margherita at Pizzeria Delfina

Pizza Margherita is delcious! Soft chewy chard crust, sweet tomato sauce and fresh creamy cheese. It is so simple yet so perfect. My idea of a perfect evening is Delfina pizza followed by Bi- Rites salted caramel ice cream. Can one move across the country for food alone?!

Gibraltar at Blue Bottle Café
I don’t know what it is about the city but they have the most delicious coffee I have ever had! Rich and smooth…

35. Salted-caramel ice cream at Bi-Rite Creamery

The combination of sweet and salty is pure heaven

41. Pho Ga at Turtle Tower

45. Secret Breakfast from Humphry Slocombe

Deliciously creamy bourbon ice cream with an occasional crunch from the cornflakes. A definite place to check out while in San Francisco. All the flavors are unique! Prosciutto ice cream anyone?!

46. Chips and salsa at Papalote

57. Goat stew at Kokkari Estiatorio (2009 Big Eat)
I don’t know how to describe this dish. It is deeply warming, complex and satisfying. This is what I want to eat on a cold New York winter night.

63. Meatballs with Grapes at Aziza

87. Fresh spring rolls at Out the Door (2009 Big Eat)
I don’t think I can count how many of these I have eaten. I am a sauce girl and a sucker for peanut butter. The rich creaminess is the perfect complement to the fresh minty rolls.

A few other things I think you should eat before you die:

Basteeya at Aziza
Paneer and peas dosa at Dosa
New Orleans ice coffee at Blue bottle
Best handroll at Zushi Puzzle
Chicken with bread salad and butterscotch parfait at Range
Miso cod with crab avocado sushi at The House

Caramel truffles at xox
Pumpkin chicken curry at Osha
Smores crème brulee from The Crème Brulee cart-if not for the experience alone!
veggie burger with avocado and goat cheese at The Plant
